Certain Stories Need Be told To Be Believed . . .
In the quiet suburb of San Leandro, California, on Darius Way, there is a little old lady that requires her tenants pay her with illegal
prescription drugs, while she plots ripping the tenant off of all their possessions. This is a true story, so ridiculous it must be true.
This old crippled gal is financially supported by some sort of Attorney managed Trust that is supposed to provide money for the everyday
needs of the lady. Rent, food, toiletries, and such are all supposed to be purchased with money from the Trust. She is even provided a few hundred dollars per month for medical marijuana purchase. She lives is a very nice neighborhood, in a very nice house. But, she is crippled and the way she acts leads others to believe she requires assistance to do most anything.
Thus were you a single parent looking for a home for yourself and your child, maybe sharing the home with this kindly old crippled
lady would seem a good idea. Until . . .
You discover that in lieu of rent, the little old lady wants you to supply her with an outrageous amount of un-prescribed pharmaceutical
drugs and when you do not do so, the little old lady plays “Jeckel” to her “Hyde” and starts trying to screw you over and rip you off. The following is a chicken scratch rental agreement authored by the old woman.
Note the following:
- “Manage pain in lou of rent.”
- The pharmaceuticals she requires are as follows,
daily: - 9:00 AM
- 10ea 500mg “oxycontin” or similar drug
- 8ea “norco”
- And 8ea Vicodin
She wants these drugs three times per day, seven days per week for a total of 78 pills per day, at a minimum cost of $168.00
from a Street Pharmacist per day, or a minimum of $5040.00 per month.
In addition to the cost of the drugs, the Tenant also provided grocery and household supplies, maintained the landscape, provided cigarettes daily, and cared for the old lady’s dog. The Tenant was entitled to utilities, cable, Netflix, Internet games, use of the washer and dryer, garbage, alarm system, a peaceful neighborhood, and although it says “most food included” the Tenant provided most of the food items. In addition, the rental came with a stipulation that the Tenant would be required to vacate the residence by May 9th as
that is when the old lady’s son gets released from prison.
From what I understand, things went along fine for a short time until the old lady decided that she did not appreciate the Tenant with-holding the drug distribution to the old lady in fear of the old lady overdosing if actually getting the quantity of drugs she wanted and/or bankrupting the Tenant with the expense. When the old lady decided that the Tenant was not providing adequate quantity of the drugs and came to the conclusion that the Tenant was trying to control her by not providing the drugs in large quantities, she turned into a
monster towards the Tenant.
One of the first things the little old lady does is contact the Attorney that oversees her “Trust” to complain about her Tenants. Staff from the Attorney’s Office then contact the Tenant advising them that the nice little old lady wants the tenants to move out. It is later learned that the little old lady cannot have tenants, nor sub-lease the residence. This nice little old lady is aware of this, but somehow in the past has had others share the home with her. It is also learned that things like landscaping are the little old lady’s responsibility. One of the first things one has to question is:
- How is this little old crippled lady going to undertake the physical challenges of doing the landscape work?
- How does the Attorney, or anyone else expect this little old crippled lady to live alone in a multi-level home without some
sort of care-giver available 24/7?
The truth be told, the little old lady is not getting all of the drugs she wants, the way she wants them, and she is using the Attorney to manipulate the Tenant into doing as the little old lady wants. Within the next week the little old lady has locked the Tenant and her child out of the home, keeping all of the tenant’s possessions, including clothing and the child’s toys and school books.
Over the following five days the little old lady refuses the Tenant access to her belongings while the little old lady entertains drug dealers, making purchases while using the Tenants belongings as her currency. In conversations overheard between the little old lady and the Tenant, the little old lady is heard telling the Tenant that the little old lady is entitled to some of the Tenants possessions. In the meantime, the Tenant is living out of her car while she has her child stay at relatives. The little old lady that cannot sub-lease the
residence nor have others reside with her has also moved in a rather unfriendly woman that is likely an ex-con, into the room rented by the Tenant. I could continue with the interactions between the involved parties, but frankly it gets so stupid that I do not want to write it all out.
After about a week of being locked out of the home, the Attorney has advised the little old lady to let the Tenant obtain her possessions and leave. The Tenant shows up and her and her friends start collecting her possessions. All is fine until one of the friends removes the new flat-screen television from the Tenants bedroom wall. The little old lady starts screaming and arguing that she gets to keep the Tenants television and presses the alarm button on her medical or alarm system which promptly has about six patrol cars with officers placing handcuffs on the people helping pack up the Tenants possessions.
After the Officer’s gather the necessary details from all involved they release all of the people and the Tenant and her friends gather her possessions unchecked and leave the residence promptly. An inventory performed the next day of the Tenants property reveals that she has been ripped off of approximately $5,000.00 in jewelry and other items, some of the items of sentimental value and irreplaceable.
Now, if you were sitting in a bar or on a street corner and heard the aforementioned story, what would you think? Would you not believe it true? Would you believe the story told lacking important details? Well I assure you, the story true and necessary detail disclosed. It took little research to discover that this little old lady has been victimizing people for a long time and for the most part gotten away with it.
But, my interest in this story continues to seek answers. How are we (our society) allowing a mid-fifties crippled little old lady to reside in a residence she certainly is incapable of maintaining, allowing her to continue her daily life unchecked while addicted to pharmaceutical drugs and forcing others to acquire the drugs for her, and allowing her to endanger herself by all of the above? Do we not have some sort of Agency responsible for the care of such people? Or, at least to protect them from themselves? Does anybody even care about this little
old crippled lady? Is this little old lady really in so much pain that she requires 78 pills a day? Does anybody care that this is going on in their neighborhood? Could you imagine yourself this little old lady? Have we as a society decided that it is okay for this little old lady to go through the rest of her life like this? Is this little old lady trying to kill herself and nobody cares?
